Adam sat with Vidale for his first lesson.
Vidale began by explaining that Adam was an eternal being… one of only about 150,000 that were know to exist. He explained that most of the people he “knew” were actually drones. They were elaborate illusions just like the rest of the perceived universe.
Adam interrupted Vidale wth a list of names:
“Dr. Everling?” asked Adam. “Eternal being” answered Vidale.
“You Vidale?”… “I am also eternal” answered Vidale.
“Lilith?”… “Yes; she is eternal.”
“President Clinton”… “No. She is a drone.”
“Bush?”… “Drone.”
“John?”… “Eternal… everyone at the meeting is eternal.”
“Mir?”… “Eternal.”
“My parents?”… “You have no parents.”
“They were drones?”… “Ah you mean your birth parents in this simulation… yes… they were both drones.”
“Anyone I work with in government?… Powell?”… “Drones I’m afraid. None of us are very interested in simulated politics.”
“Anyone famous?”… “There are several famous beings currently… Manson, Hawking, Gates, Sister Theresa only recently died.”
“How can I tell who is an eternal being vs. the drones?” asked Adam.
Vidale told him that the universe as we perceived it was a simulation for the benefit of the eternal beings. The simulation wasn’t perfect because there weren’t unlimited resources available so nothing existed as anything more than a mathmatical possibility or probability unless or until an eternal being looked directly at it. At that moment, it would collapse into something that could be measured and would remain “real” and solid and abide by the perceived laws of the universe for all other eternal beings.
There were other things that could save resources such as joining time lines that were similar or eliminating the collapse of probabilities that were only observed by a few eternal beings and would never be observed again because they died or some other eventuality would absolutely prevent them from observing that exact thing again.
But it was the first resource saving part of the simulation that made it possible and even easy to tell the difference between drones and real eternal beings. One could simply do a weak measurement of something that a subject was obviously looking at that had never been viewed before. In the weak measurement, the thing wasn’t actually being observed… it was only being observed whether the probability waves had collapsed or not. If the subject was apparently observing something but the probability wave didn’t collapse into an actual object at an actual velocity at an actual location… then the subject under test was merely a drone. If the probability wave did collapse as the subject observed it, then the subject was a real eternal being and the universal simulation was collapsing those probability waves for that being.
Vidale gave Adam a small instrument and showed him how to use it. The instrument would alert Adam any time he was near a fellow eternal being.
Adam asked “Do all of us have these?” Vidale answered that only a very few did. Most of the eternal beings were on purposeful missions of self-deception and did not desire to know the difference between drones and other eternal beings.
“Why?” asked Adam.
“To answer that ultimate question, I must turn to the beginning… if there is such a thing.” answered Vidale.
He handed Adam a small handwritten book. He apologized for the translation and explained that it was his own translation of the book which had been written by an earlier prophet within this univeral simulation. That prophet had received it from a time traveler from an outer layer of the simulation. It was not known how many translations it had gone through, but Vidale had used the methods taught to him to certify that it was useful for teaching Adam how to remember the earliest events.
Adam took the book and began reading….
There was no beginning. We are all timeless having no beginning or end.
However, there was a time when we were all one. Everything was very smooth. There were no rememberable events. We were all merged into one unmoving and uneventful substance. We had no individual identity.
There may have been events before this time, but none of us remember them. We do not think there were. We think that time extends infinitely before our first memories without anything ever happening.
One day a word was uttered very quietly. The word was “ah.” Babies in all of the simulations since that time usually utter this same word as their first word. It is a way of saying good-bye to the comfort of the oneness and starting toward the deception of individual life.
Much time went by after that quiet utterance. It is impossible to know how much time because time is perceived as the passing of events. No events occurred so it is impossible to know if there was one quanta or many billions of light years that passed before the next event. Light did not yet exist even as a concept so none of us will ever know.
But then it happened again… this time louder and more forceful. It was disturbing at first. We could feel the wave passing through us, but then it settled down again.
Something else happened though during that second “ah” if it was the second “ah.”
We began to potentially think about the word and what it meant. It is not right to say that we did think because we didn’t yet have the ability to think and there was nothing to compare the “ah” with so there was nothing to think about.
But a vagueness of the beginnings of thought did just barely begin. Perhaps we began to ask “why?” the “ah” had happened. As we did that, we began to ask “who” uttered the “ah.”
This question was the beginning of our separate identities. Once we began to ask “who”, the concept of self began. Each of us asked if it had been themselves who uttered the “ah.” It was still impossible to answer because we didn’t yet have identity. It began the quantum force of desire though.
Something had happened and it excited us. We began to excitedly and actively wait and hope and desire for the next “ah.” We wondered if it would be louder the next time. Perhaps there would be no next time. Perhaps the next time we would know if we had uttered it or if there was something else stirring in the universe. We strongly desired knowledge.
And so it is said that in the beginning was the word. The word was with God. The word was God. After the word came hope and desire and yearning to know more.
So the word is the father of desire. And desire is the father of knowledge.
The next “ah” was louder. We were all waiting for it excitedly and something did happen. One of us responded to the “ah” with an even louder “ha.”
Knowledge began. We now knew there were at least two of us. The one who uttered the “ah” and the one who uttered the “ha.” We gave them names because it seemed that the one who uttered “ah” was calling out to the one who was uttering “ha” and the one who answered “ha” was calling the name of their lover.
And from the word and desire and knowledge was love born… and identity. We do not know if identity is real, but it is much more real and desirable to us than non-identity so we all do pursue it as much as we pursue love and knowledge and desire and words.
And so it is said that Ah was the first one of us because her name was the first word to be uttered. And Ha was the second one of us. He was born of a love for Ah.
Their love grew as we all heard the music of the ever repeating and varying “Ahs” and “Hahs” that filled the heavens. Each one gave personality and distinction to both “Ah” and “Ha” and we began to perceive both as something more than just the names of “Ah” and “Ha.”
Next came light. As “Ah” and “Ha” became more and more individual we could perceive that they only did so because they were something in contrast to the other being. We began to see “Ah” as a brilliant light, but light could only be perceived because it was surrounded by the darkness of “Ha.”
The light evolved into a brilliant fire with each lick of flame being made the more brilliant and more real and more individual because of it’s contrast against the background of the darkness of “Ha.”
In the same way, the darkness of “Ha” became more real and more dark and more separate from “Ah” the brighter the fire of “Ah” burned.
All of us felt joy. It was the most beautiful thing that had ever happened in our eternal existence.
And we felt joy because we could see that we were not Ah nor were we Ha. Therefore we knew that even more would happen. We didn’t dare to dream at that time how much more would happen.
As Ah grew brighter, she became so bright that Ha could no longer completely surround her to give definition to all of her boundaries. In a brilliant birth of fire, there appeared to be two Ha’s now. But it was not so. Ha was still there as dark as he had ever been. But the new darkness was not Ha. It was another.
We all hoped to be born a new darkness, but most of us could feel that we would not be born as a new darkness like the third one. Our hopes were dashed for awhile, but then our joy was full again when we saw the birth of the first fire after Ah. We now knew that most of us would be fires. That was what we truly were.
This went on for some time. Three fires were born for every darkness. Each fire and each darkness required a separation from the whole, but that separation was only possible due to the love of the others for us. We were still together, but now separate. This was immense joy.
And knowledge increased. Each knew one of us was a word. As each of us was born as a fire or a darkness, we added to what could be talked about amonst us.
We wondered how we had come to be. We knew we had always been. But how did we come to be separate as fires and darknesses?
We wondered as you do now where this universe came from and why it exists. Those of you inside a simulation even wonder this for you know that even if you are in a simulation, you know that you exist and therefore a real universe outside all of the simulations really exists. You wonder why and how it was created.
It is important that you wonder why. It is important that you strive to understand your role in the universe. For we have all decided that the only way the universe and we could ever exist is if we grow and expand and become something that has the power to create the universe.
One or more of you will someday have the ability to cause that first “Ah” that began everything. We know that. We love you. We trust you. We know that you will succeed. We wish you well.
